Canv.as Sneak Peek

Last night I received an invite to try out Canv.as, the highly anticipated project from 4chan founder Chris “moot” Poole. It’s not the new 4chan, and it’s not supposed to be.

  1. One of the first things I did after signing up was repost that picture of the turtle and pirate from those Art Instruction Schools TV commercials that have haunted me in my dreams since about the age of 7. Without much effort on my part, the other users of the site with Beta invites churned out their own takes on the "enjoyable art test."

  2. Remixing!

Underneath every image is the "Make a remix" button, providing the user with some basic photo manipulation tools for painting, filling, and adding text. But one of the more interesting tools is the magic stamp. If you remember Kid Pix then the stamp should light a little nostalgia fire in the back of your head.

  3. Stickers!

Images can be given reaction stickers by other users, a lot like the badges we use here at BuzzFeed. I'm not sure what cookies signify yet, but I like where it's going.

  4. The Future!

For now, Canv.as only supports images (including animated gifs!) but in the future it is expected to support video as well, meaning that this video would have been totally appropriate.
